Agreement to Terms

By downloading, installing, or using Universal Context Menu ("the App"), you agree to these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, do not use the App.

Description of Service

Universal Context Menu is a macOS utility that captures selected text and allows you to query Anthropic's Claude AI about that text. The App requires your own Anthropic API key to function.

Requirements

To use this App, you must:

  • Have a valid Anthropic API account and API key
  • Comply with Anthropic's Terms of Service and Acceptable Use Policy
  • Grant the App necessary macOS permissions (Accessibility)
  • Be at least 13 years old (or the minimum age in your jurisdiction)

Your Responsibilities

API Key and Account

  • You are responsible for your Anthropic API key and any charges incurred
  • Keep your API key confidential
  • You are responsible for all activity under your API key

Acceptable Use

You agree NOT to use the App to:

  • Process illegal, harmful, or abusive content
  • Violate Anthropic's Acceptable Use Policy
  • Infringe on others' intellectual property or privacy rights
  • Attempt to reverse engineer, modify, or redistribute the App without permission

Content

  • You are solely responsible for any text you select and questions you ask
  • The App processes whatever text you select—ensure you have the right to share it with AI services

Intellectual Property

The App and its original content, features, and functionality are owned by the developer and are protected by copyright and other intellectual property laws.

Third-Party Services

Anthropic Claude API

  • The App requires Anthropic's Claude API to function
  • Your use of Claude is subject to Anthropic's terms: https://www.anthropic.com/terms
  • We are not responsible for Anthropic's service availability, pricing, or policies
  • AI responses are generated by Anthropic's models, not by us

Disclaimers

"As Is" Provision

THE APP IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO:

  • Merchantability
  • Fitness for a particular purpose
  • Non-infringement
  • Accuracy or reliability of AI responses

AI Responses

  • AI responses may be inaccurate, incomplete, or inappropriate
  • Do not rely on AI responses for medical, legal, financial, or safety-critical decisions
  • Always verify important information from authoritative sources

Accessibility API

  • Text capture depends on macOS Accessibility API, which may not work with all applications
  • We cannot guarantee the App will capture text from every application

Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, THE DEVELOPER SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR:

  • Any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages
  • Loss of profits, data, or goodwill
  • Service interruption or computer damage
  • Any damages exceeding the amount you paid for the App (if any)

This limitation applies regardless of the legal theory (contract, tort, or otherwise).

Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless the developer from any claims, damages, or expenses arising from:

  • Your use of the App
  • Your violation of these Terms
  • Your violation of any third-party rights
  • Content you process through the App

Changes to Terms

We may modify these Terms at any time. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance. Check the "Last Updated" date periodically.

Termination

We may terminate or suspend your access to the App at any time, without notice, for conduct that we believe violates these Terms or is harmful to other users or third parties.

Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, United States, without regard to conflict of law principles.

Severability

If any provision of these Terms is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions remain in full effect.

Entire Agreement

These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and us regarding the App.
